My nature changed, by Jefu's faving grace,
And all my foul made meet to see his face,
I heard his call, and left your dark abode,
And swift afcended to the mount of God:
Where flaming feraphs, in harmonious strains,
Hailed my arrival on the heavenly plains.

"The Saviour next (in glorious light arrayed)
From his high throne, in cheering accents faid,
Thy tranfient sufferings are for ever o'er,

Nor pain, nor death shall e'er afflict thee more.
Receive these joys my ftreaming blood procured,
When for thy infant foul I death endured;
Among my virgin-train now take thy place,
And fhout the wonders of redeeming grace!

"He ceafed; and round his throne the radiant throng,
In hallelujahs raiféd a lofty fong:

Unbounded joys o'erflowed my ravished heart,
And in his endless praife I gladly bore my part.

"Cease then your grief-By humble faith and prayer,
While you have life, for this bleffèd place prepare;
Its fmallest joys no angel-tongue can tell:
Prepare to meet me here-till then farewel."

Farewel bleft shade! I fee thy beauties rife ;
The pleasing scene out-foars my gazing eyes:
Inftructed thus I kifs the chaftening rod,
And freely own thy kindness, O my God!
Thy power, thy goodnefs may I ever fee,
And wholly dedicate, myself, my all to thee!

Bless my whole houfe; prepare us all to fland
With joy among the fheep at thy right hand:
There with our babe behold thy lovely face,
Bask in the beams divine, and triumph in thy grace.

The

The BENEFIT of AFFLICTION, Job v. 6, 7, 8.

WHEN huge afflictions prefs me down,

And forrows make my nature groan,

Where fhall I find relief?

I'll bow myself before my God

And humbly kifs the facred rod,
Till he affwage my grief.

My numerous fins will I confefs,
And own in every fore distress
The Lord is good and just :
For by experience I have found
Afflictions fpring not from the ground,
Nor troubles from the duft.

So fure as sparks from burning fire,
By native force will still aspire,
And upward wing their way;
So furely man is born to pain;
Our common lot is to complain,
While here on earth we flay.

Nor is the caufe fo hard to tell,
Since from the Lord we bafely fell,
And left the fource of blifs:
How can we hope for joys ferene,
While Sin, the monfter lurks within,
That Parent of diftrefs?

To Jefus then I make my moan :-
O, plead my caufe before the throne!
Thou haft the Father's ear:

Since thou for me didft undertake,

My fuit is gained-thy blood did make
Atonement at his bar.
